We stayed at this hotel as we were flying from Birmingham airport the following day. The hotel room was clean and comfortable and had everything that we wanted. There was a busy restaurant attached which we didn't use but looked very pleasant and the outside area was very inviting with plenty of tables and some heated and nice planting. We had an enjoyable stay even for just the one night as we went for a walk into the town which took minutes and had a drink in a friendly bar and an Indian meal. We will use this hotel again.
Affordable stop over, food reasonable.
We booked a family room. However, the 'zed' bed was only really for small children (up to 5yrs). Our 11yr old was too heavy for it (he's an average 11yrs old). The bed arrangement wasn't mentioned in the hotel information.
excellent location near airport/shopping/countryside/motorway staff can't do enough for you
Ideally located for visiting friends in the area and shopping in Knowle. Lost a bracelette and this was found a returned to me by the staff, very grateful.
Unfortunately there were just not enough staff. The hotel offers room service but no one answers the phone. The reception desk is rarely manned and it seems to be up to the staff to 'notice' if a guest needs assistance and attend to them. The Greswolde Arms is very much a pub/hotel and the pub definitely comes first.
Room rate was good value for money, and cleanliness above average.
The service in the Resaurant was slow, and the Staff didn't appear too observant. Also, the choice of food was a bit "Pub Like" and not what I was expecting. Bit expensive too for the type of food on offer.
Our visit was to celebrate a 70th birthday with family and friends. We took a 'party package' - sit down meal & disco. Two 'party' rooms at our disposal, excellent meal and attentive staff. Could not have been better. Our suite room overlooked the main Road but was very quiet. Would recommend!
One minor point! crossing the road to get to the car park with suitcases was not an easy option in pouring rain!
The location was convenient for visiting our friends.
The lack of staff on reception - any problem and there's no one to be found or answering the phone who can help. When there are customers at the bar the residents become of secondary importance. Our room smelt damp and was changed to the disabled room. This was ok but the bathroom was very disappointing. Check-out was very long winded due to lack of staff.
I booked family room for my two kids. The room was same as normal room and too much small to install two 'z' beds for my kids. It was just normal room that had double bed for two person and narrow space. Room key had problem several times. It didn't work to open door and went back to reception to fix it several times.
The staff were excellent, friendly but not too friendly, & the food & wine were very good & value for money.
Very little really, some of the rooms are a bit of a trek to get to from reception but they're nice rooms.
Room exceeded our expectations given the price. We stayed for two nights as attending a wedding nearby. Only breakfasted there on the second day, but rather regretted not doing it on the first morning too - very tasty buffet with lots of options, lots of fruit and even fat free yoghurt, scrambled/poached eggs on toast also good - although would hope it's hard to mess those up :) We also had lunch & coffee there pre-wedding and were really quite impressed with the quality for a chain pub - tasty mediterranean veggie tart and fish finger sandwich. Will be back if we have any reason to be in the area again.
Tv reception was down throughout the hotel, normally this wouldn't bother us, but after a couple of really busy weeks we thought we'd treat ourselves to an early night and a bit of telly watching, but despite the lovely big tv ... it didn't work - apparently aerial came down in storms recently. At least though they had wifi, so we managed a little tv on our own small screen. Some of the hallways smelt of damp, but given what appeared to be fresh new decor in all the rooms (we had friends in other rooms), I presume the hallways are on the "to do" list too, once this is done & the television aerial is back up I don't think we could find fault with the room (suite) for the price - shower was a little hard to use for my 6'3 hubby as it was squeezed in with the roof rafters, but it was fine for me.
Outdoor seating area. Nice bar and dining area. Close to other places to eat in Knowle Not far from the nec
Room was stuffy, corridor smelt of rotting wet towels, tv signal went and receptionist did not report this to the manager so we had no tv for 3 days. Dispute over payment because their computer did not match the room costs from my original booking. No plain yoghurt for breakfast so the chef went out to buy some. Coffee not nice so we went out to Costa's for breakfast.
Great bar and restaurant, helpful staff, free parking, great access to M42, M6, Birmingham, Solihull, Knowle.
I didn't like the convoluted payment of the hotel bill. I booked the hotel online and thought that I had paid there and then, but it turned out that I had not. When I checked in I was asked to provide a debit/credit card in which they would charge any additional bar/meal costs etc., again I thought that at this point that I would also be paying the hotel room fee, and again it turned out that I hadn't; only when my partner came to check out (i.e. hand back the door access card) did he find out that he had to pay the fee! I really don’t know why they can’t just let me pay when I check in and then checkout quickly! Don’t they look at other chains and see how they do it? It's a small issue but when I check out, I want to do it quickly and with as less fuss as possible, If I wanted to open a bar tab then that should be a separate option.
The family room we had was very nice - really impressed with the size of it bearing in mind we have 3 teenagers, we weren't cramped at all. The fact that the children's beds were in a separate area of the room and they had their own t.v. was a good design plan! We stayed overnight for our visit to the Gadget Show in Birmingham and we would stay again if we visit the show next year.
My son was a little upset that the Mussels he ordered at lunchtime didn't come in their shells. Instead they were mixed with mushrooms and a sauce and he had to pick them out. Apart from that little issue (which is just my son being fussy) everything else was really good.
Was able to check-in earlier than advertised. Good sized, clean, comfortable room and bathroom. Convenient for Birmingham International train station where I arrived and for Hampton Manor, the wedding reception venue I was attending.
They should have warned at check-in that returning back late you need to call the night porter. I was stuck outside for a long time as I didn't have my mobile phone on me. The tv in the bedroom didn't work - there was no digital signal. Also the menu for the restaurant looked very good, but my Sunday lunch was very disappointing, chewy, tasteless meat and cardboard yorkshire.
Very modern rooms and very nice food.
It is unfortunately very popular in the village of Knowle which means a lot of noise. I did not appreciate being in room 9 that it is adjacent to the service gate/pub machinery that did not stop making noise until 1.00am!! The room has also an adjoining door to the room next door which is not sound proofed, so again all noise from the couple next door could be heard very clearly until 2.00am. The night porter then at 6.00am in the morning decided to throw a bottle away which again woke me up. So all in all nice food but this does not make up for the 4 hours of sleep. I spoke to reception in the morning saying I was not happy only to be offered a free breakfast! Thanks but no thanks I think i'll just not bother returning to this hotel again. You have been warned.
